The Pyrenees are the long, wild border range between France and Spain — over 400 km of mountains with a character and a snowpack distinct from the Alps. The touring spans the high granite of the Maladeta and Posets, the limestone of the Ordesa side, the rounded summits of the Couserans, and the cross-border classics around Andorra. Our database holds 324 catalogued ski-touring routes across the range.

The Pyrenean snowpack is its own thing — typically thinner and more maritime-influenced than the inner Alps, with its own weak-layer behaviour. Treat Alpine intuition with care here. The catalogue's hardest Pyrenean lines are the steep couloirs and north faces of the high central range — the Néouvielle, Arbizon and Endron sectors. Each links through to its full topo. With 324 catalogued routes spanning France and Spain, filter the map by difficulty for the broad moderate-touring terrain the range is loved for.

Our committed hut dataset does not yet cover the Pyrenees, so no refuges are listed here — this is a known coverage gap, not a sign the range lacks them: the Pyrenees have an excellent network of guarded and unguarded refuges (the cabanes on the French side, the Spanish refugios). Use the interactive map and the FFCAM / federation refuge listings to plan overnights until our dataset extends across the range.

The instrument below slices our avalanche-accident dataset to the Pyrenees bounding box: 57 recorded accidents, by aspect, altitude band and month. This is a smaller, French-side-weighted sample, so read it as indicative of the pattern rather than a complete census of the range.

The Pyrenean pattern is north-facing (peak aspect N) and sits lower than the high Alps — in the 2000–2400 m band — reflecting the range's lower mean touring altitude. It peaks in January. The thinner, more variable Pyrenean snowpack means local knowledge and the current bulletin matter even more than in the Alps.
