🏔️ Tsanteleina (3,602m)
Classic ski mountaineering peak accessible from Val d'Isère. Spectacular glacier climb with 360° summit views. Can be done as a long day tour or with a night at Refuge du Prariond.
⛷️ Col de la Leisse
Beautiful tour into the heart of Vanoise National Park. Cross the col at 2,758m and descend into pristine valleys. Popular spring tour with excellent snow and wildlife viewing (ibex, chamois).
🎿 Pointe de la Sana (3,436m)
Excellent intermediate ski tour from Val d'Isère. Long skin up the Gorges de Malpasset, then glacier ascent to the summit. Rewarding views and varied terrain on the descent.

Vanoise National Park
Val d'Isère borders Vanoise National Park (1963), France's first national park. The park offers pristine wilderness ski touring:

Safety Considerations
⚠️ Avalanche Terrain
Val d'Isère sits in serious avalanche terrain. The area is known for high avalanche activity, especially on north-facing slopes. Check forecasts daily and be conservative in route selection.

- Glacier Travel: Crevasse danger on Grande Motte, Tsanteleina, and other glacier routes
- Weather: Storms can bring 1m+ of snow overnight. Monitor forecasts closely
- Crowds: Popular routes can be tracked out quickly on weekends
- Rescue: PGHM Val d'Isère provides helicopter rescue
Best Season
- December - February: Deep snow, cold temps, avalanche risk high after storms
- March - April: Best conditions, stable snow, longer days, perfect temps
- May - June: Spring skiing, corn snow, high routes still good
- Summer (Grande Motte only): Glacier skiing July-August
Getting There
- Car: 3 hours from Geneva, 2 hours from Lyon, 5 hours from Paris
- Airport: Closest is Chambéry (2 hrs) or Geneva (2.5 hrs)
- Train: TGV to Bourg-St-Maurice (30 min from Val d'Isère)
